The Australian Bight Abalone Project is located off Waldegrave Island, Anxious Bay, near Elliston on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia.

The Eyre Peninsula is the premier region for South Australian aquaculture, with Abalone aquaculture beginning in the area in the 1980's.   The region is most renowned for Tuna aquaculture, an industry that is well known for its massive growth in the late 1990's.

The Project site is renowned for the abundant wild Abalone that grows naturally in the sub-tidal basins.
